intensive outpatient treatment

flexible part-time live-in therapy.

The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a later step in the recovery process. After clients transition through full-time residential treatment and day-treatment (PHP), they progress to our intensive outpatient program.

what is intensive outpatient treatment like?

While attending IOP, clients continue to live at the NACA residence and attend group and individual therapy for half the day. The rest of the day is spent working or finding a job, going to school, going to 12-step meetings, or participating in other recovery activities that help prepare for life outside our facility. Our IOP allows patients to begin the move to everyday activities while still receiving treatment, valuable support, and individualized help and attention. Generally, clients spend about 45 days in IOP as they prepare for the transition to aftercare.

benefits of IOP.

During an intensive outpatient program, our patients continue dealing with many physiological and psychological issues that accompany extended drug use and addiction. The program focuses on: - Developing life skills - Learning relapse prevention skills - Managing urges and cravings - Understanding brain chemistry - Trauma counseling - EMDR (Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing)

how IOP addresses post-acute withdrawal syndrome (PAWS).

Heavy use of certain drugs can cause long-term withdrawal symptoms, including mood disorders and other psychological challenges. While acute physical withdrawal lasts days or weeks at most, these symptoms may linger for months or even years - in short, after treatment ends. This condition is known as Post-Acute Withdrawal Syndrome, or PAWS.

In order to prepare patients for this reality, our IOP program encourages active participation in 12-step and other long-term recovery programs. IOP is a powerful tool in the holistic and comprehensive recovery that we want for all our patients. As clients successfully progress from residential treatment through aftercare, they are prepared to live a sober life with as many tools, skills, and resources as we can give them.
